Panama: $117 million for Road Works

The funds will be used for road widening in the Colon Free Zone and renovation of other routes.

From a statement issued by the National Economic Council of Panama:

"The National Economic Council (CENA) has approved for the Colon Free Zone, an additional loan in the amount of 84 million 22 thousand Balboas for the purpose of adding to their budget and partially funding the expansion work of Avenida Ahmed Waked, Via Randolph and access to the city of Colon in the amount of 75 million and the 9 million 22 thousand balboas will be used to pay off a loan balance product of the Brady Bonds, said the Deputy Minister of Economy Gladys Cedeño.

Also, the CENA favorably responded to a request for additional credit by the Ministry of Public Works, of 32 million 510 thousand 827 Balboas, whose purpose is to attend to various Works for Supervision and Auditing, Renovation and Maintenance contracts, routine maintenance and renovation projects on rural roads nationwide.

Congress has approved an international loan to rehabilitate and extend 108 kms of the route from Escuintla to Ciudad Pedro Alvarado.

The funds will be used to finance the implementation of the rehabilitation of the two existing lanes and the construction of two more lanes on the CA-2 East Highway.

Panama: Motorway Extension Awarded

Work on the third phase of the Panama - Colon road, has been awarded directly through an addendum to the $163 million contract with the Madden-Colón Concessionaire.

The funding includes $127 million for construction and $35 million for private affectations, said Frank de Lima, Minister of Economy and Finance.
