Palmerola Airport: Contract Award Approved

The Central American Integration Bank approved the awarding and signing of contracts for various works, which together amount to $36.6 million.

The funds are part of the Debt Conversion Program of Honduras against Spain, which is administered by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), reported the multilateral organization.

Tegucigalpa, August 3, 2020. The Debt Conversion Program of Honduras against Spain, administered by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), approved the awarding and signing of the following contracts for Palmerola Airport:

  • $1.6 million in Technical Assistance for the Work Management, Control and Surveillance, contractor GHESA-Airtificial Consortium.
  • $20.0 million in construction and start-up of the power plant, rings and beaconing, contractor Elecnor Sampol Consortium.
  • $9.9 million in construction of the Control Tower and Fire Brigade Building, contractor Elecnor-Sampol Consortium.
  • $2.6 million in Purchase of fire-fighting vehicles, contractor: ITURRI, S.A.
  • $1.3 million in Palmerola Project, contractor: Ingeniería de Sistemas para la Defensa de España, S.A. (ISDEFE)
  • $1.2 million in the acquisition of a wastewater treatment plant by INCLAM, S.A.

The authorities of the Governments of Honduras and Spain approved US$53.2 million for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of Palmerola International Airport. With the subscription of these services and works, 69 percent of this financing has been committed, which is part of the support this Program provides to the sustainable development of Honduras.

Endorsement of Contract to Build Palmerola

The approval of the contract by the Congress of Honduras authorizes the State to co-fund with $76 million the project awarded to Inversiones EMCO.

From a statement issued by the National Congress of Honduras:

The National Congress approved in a session on Tuesday, in a second debate, the contract for the construction of Palmerola international airport and the new Law on Decentralization of the State of Honduras.

In this regard, approval was given on a second reading, of the the draft decree sent by the Executive Branch, which contains the concession contract for the project "Design, Construction, Financing, Operation and Maintenance of Palmerola international airport of the Republic of Honduras.
The approximate cost of the project is 163 million dollars and the contract for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the International Airport in Palmerola, which was signed on March 31, has a concession period of 30 years.

The New International Airport in Honduras

A contract has been signed for the start of works on the International Airport in Palmerola, Comayagua, so that operations can start in 2018.

Following the signing of the official contract, construction of the new International Airport in Palmerola, in the department of Comayagua, will begin in May, for operations to start in 2018.

Palmerola Airport Concession Canceled

The Honduran government has annulled the contract awarded in January to the company Saisa for the construction of the terminal and announced they will put it out to tender again.

The project will be conducted under conditions different from those previously established, for this reason the cancellation of the contract was confirmed and it was clarified that the company given the award, Servicios Aeroportuarios Integrados S.A.
