Palm Oil: $45 million in Exports

In the first quarter of the year Honduras exported $45 million worth of palm oil and its derivatives, and 85% went to the Netherlands and El Salvador.

Variation of exports 
Between the first three months of 2017 and the same quarter of 2018, the export volume of palm oil registered a decrease of 32%, falling from 82,334 tons to 55,959 tons. 

In line with the behavior of the volume sold, for the quarters in question the export value also registered a decrease, falling from $67 million to $45 million. 

Price of exports 
In the last two years the price has registered a slight upward trend. This behavior was evidenced between the months of February 2016 and March 2018, a period in which the average price of a kilo of exports rose by 60%, going from $0.58 to $0.93.  

Destination of exports 
During the first quarter of the year, 66% of the value exported from Honduras went to the Netherlands, 18% to El Salvador, 7% to Guatemala, 5% to Nicaragua and 4% to Germany. 

El Salvador is the destination country for exports that has declined the most in the period from January to March of the last seven years.  In 2012 it represented 25% of the total export value, and in 2018 this figure was 18%.
