Variation of intraregional trade  
Between 2016 and 2017 trade in paints and varnishes among Central American countries registered a variation of 7%, rising from $133 million to $142 million. 

In the last four years the region has reported a sustained increase in intraregional trade, registering average annual growth of 9%. 

Intraregional exports by country 
In 2017, the main exporter of paints and varnishes in Central America was Costa Rica with $61 million, followed by Guatemala, with $35 million, El Salvador, with $34 million, Honduras with $7 million, and Nicaragua and Panama recorded exports of less than $1 million. 

Main intraregional importer 
Last year Nicaragua was the main buyer of paints and varnishes from the other Central American countries, importing $35 million worth, of which $15 was bought from Guatemala, $13 million from Costa Rica, $4 million from El Salvador and $0.7 million from Honduras.
