Intraregional trade goes down
Between the first half of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the trade in paints and lacquers between Central American countries fell by 7%, from $64 million to $59 million.

The reported decline from January to June 2018 is the first recorded for the period concerned in the last five years, since from 2014 to 2017 the region reported a 10% average growth.

Costa Rica, main supplier

In the first half of 2018, the main exporter of paints and lacquers in Central America remained Costa Rica with $30 million, followed by El Salvador with $16 million, Guatemala with $13 million, Honduras with $400,000, and Panama with $100,000.

Highest intra-regional importer
From January to June last year, Honduras was the main buyer of paints and lacquers to other Central American countries, importing $14 million of which $7 million to Costa Rica, $4 million to El Salvador and $3 million to Guatemala.
