Intraregional trade decreases
Between January and September 2017 and the same period in 2018, trade in paints and varnishes between Central American countries declined by 9%, from $99 million to $91 million.

The decline reported in the first nine months of 2018 is the first recorded for the period concerned in the last five years, since from 2014 to 2017 the region reported a 10% average growth.

Costa Rica, main supplier
In the first nine months of 2018, the main exporter of paints and varnishes in Central America continued to be Costa Rica with $46 million, followed by El Salvador with $24 million, Guatemala with $19 million, Panama with $1.2 million, Honduras with $600 thousand and Nicaragua with $500 thousand.

Main intraregional importer
From January to June last year, Honduras was the main buyer of paints and varnishes to other Central American countries, importing $25 million of which $12 million was purchased from Costa Rica, $7 million from El Salvador and $6 million from Guatemala.
