The possibility for members to contract an additional pension to that obtained with an IGSS retirement or to perform cosmetic surgery are the areas in which private insurance could participate.

Carlos Contreras, president of the entity's board of directors, told Elperiodico.com.gt that "... The possibility of social security alliances with private companies is great', the IGSS offers basic insurance and family protection goes beyond that, including catastrophes and housing."

Christian Nölck, president of AGIS, confirmed that "... The insurance sector is now thinking about PPPs that give companies the possibility to offer complementary insurance in the area of health care and pensions."
