Organic bananas soon to be marketed in Guatemala

The Xepecul brand of organic bananas is ready for market, and the first harvest is now underway in Guatemala.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

The Association for the Development of the Boca Costa of Sololá (Adiboc), the owner of the Xepecul brand, is the only company that grows organic banana trees. They are certified by Mayacert, Ecological Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Manuel Quemá, the legal representative of Adiboc, said production got underway three years ago for organic bananas and coffee.
The quality has improved and the certifications will add value - and income - for the products in export markets.
