- Fresh and processed foods, cleaning and personal care products, safety and maintenance equipment, packaging materials, and cooking and cleaning supplies are potential products to be supplied to vessels.

San José, November 6, 2014. The growth of the maritime industry in Panama, following the expansion of the canal and development of high-level port infrastructure, opens up opportunities for Costa Rican exporters from various sectors to enter the segment of ship supplies. This information is derived from the study "Opportunities in supplying ships in Panama," presented today by Procomer.

The economic growth of this country and its promise for the next few years positions it as a market with potential. Panama, the most dynamic economy in Latin America according to the latest report from the World Bank, was the second largest destination of exports from Costa Rica (not including electronic components) and racked up 6% of total exports. Additionally, it is a market that has had a positive trade balance with high dynamism in the last decade, exports grew at an annual rate of 13.5% going from $184.1 million to $573.8 million, while Imports rose by 13.8% going from $103.9 million to $331.3 million.
