From a press release issued by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Office:

The global halal industry is estimated to be worth hundreds of billions of dollars and is multiplying along with the growth of Muslim populations. Producers outside the Muslim world are eager to tap into this growing market, and the UAE is positioning itself as the gateway and becoming a global hub for business and Islamic finance. Officials in this country reported in February that Dubai had dedicated about 62 million square meters of its territory to house in Dubai Industrial City a Halal Cluster for companies engaged in manufacturing and logistics of such products and those related to food, cosmetics and personal care products.

Belhoul Abdullah, CEO of Dubai Industrial City, said the idea of creating an exclusive area for the producers of halal goods was driven by the increasing local and international demand for these goods. He also said that he expects the industry to double in value in five years. "We know that this industry is growing, therefore we think that there are many opportunities and we have to take advantage of this," he said.
