One Stop Shop for Imports

Representatives of public and private sectors in Guatemala are demanding the creation of a single process for import procedures, similar to that for exports.

Siglo21.com.gt notes that since in the country the “Ventanilla Unica” (single counter), also known as (VUPE) only works for exports, the director of Exporter Services, of the Guatemalan Association of Exporters (Agexport), Fernando Herrera, said there is a need to "create an Import Counter".

The proposal was made public during the Fourth Conference on Latin American Foreign Trade Counters which takes place in La Antigua Guatemala.

"The country makes on average more than half a million annual export transactions and over 800 thousand imports transactions, therefore the development of the import window would facilitate trade, increase the country's competitiveness, reduce costs and make us attractive to investors, ", said Herrera.

According Agexport, it would facilitate 800,000 annual transactions by way of trade

Single Window for Imports Promised

During the first half of this year, it is expected to implement in Guatemala the single window for the facilitation of imports, which would operate through an electronic platform.

The Ministry of Economy reported that to implement the single window, there is already a working group in which representatives of the productive sector and authorities of the portfolios of Health and Agriculture to agree.
