Omni dispute continues over Mercedes Benz

Vehicles made by Daimler AG can only be distributed and marketed in Guatemala by Comercial Omni, officials from this company say.

At a press conference, Omni warned the people of Guatemala to avoid buying these vehicles from Grupo Automotriz Q, because they would risk losing their vehicles, depending on judicial prohibitions.
Rodrigo Enrique Franco López said the contract with DaimlerChrysler AG, which provides the vehicles to Grupo Omni, is still in force under court orders and no other company in Guatemala can market them or use their symbols.
Grupo Automotriz officials say the Omni contract has expired and they now have a right to sell DaimlerChrysler makes.

GEVESA and Grupo Q have concluded the companies' merger of their vehicle sales operations and the new group's name will be Grupo Q.

Juan Federico Salaverría, GEVESA president, explained that legally they will continually to operate independently, especially with regard to suppliers. GEVESA, which distributes the Mazda, Peugeot and Ford brands will take a 30% share in the new combined business.

In Panama, Grupo Q won the bid to supply 420 buses for the “transmóvil” project for an amount of $79,981,240.

The Volvo consortium was disqualified during the process because its proposal did not contain an adequate maintenance plan for the vehicles offered.

In an article in prensa.com, the scores from the evaluation were detailed: "Grupo Q was evaluated with a score 81.30% after its financial capacity was analyzed, an aspect that was worth 20% of the total score. Its administrative and technical experience represented 40% and its financial offer was worth another 40%."

El Salvador: Distribution issues continue to rankle at Mercedes Benz

The distribution of vehicles of the German manufacturer Mercedes Benz is causing so much discord that it has landed in court without the prospect of a quick solution.

During the last few weeks, paid advertisements have appeared in the national media, some of them paid for by Grupo Daimler AG, which claim that the distribution in the country was granted to Group Q of San Salvador, and others by Grupo Omi, who does not accept that its contract has been rescinded.

Grupo Q opens region's largest auto service center in Costa Rica

Grupo Q of El Salvador opened Central America's largest automobile service center in Costa Rica. The 1,555 square meters center can handle 15 vehicles at a time, but plans are already afoot to expand capacity.

The new center forms part of an expansion strategy that was launched five years ago when Grupo Q acquired Lachner & Sáenz.
