Odebrecht to Build Third Transmission line in Panama

With a price of $234 million, the company Norberto Odebrecht has been awarded the design and construction of a third power transmission line.

The resolution for the award by the Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica (Etesa) includes the acceptance of the proposed plan for long-term financing by the Brazilian construction company Norberto Odebrecht, however, it does not detail what the conditions are.

"With the third line, Etesa expects to double the power transmission capacity between the main point of generation (Chiriqui) and the area with the highest intake in the country (Panama)," said Roberto Gonzalez in his article in Prensa.com.

The third transmission line will have a length of 320 kilometers and a capacity to carry 800 megawatts.

Empresa de Transmisión Electrica, S.A. (Etesa) awarded to Vimac SA a contract to replace a 230 KW transmission line, valued at $20.4 million and Celmec SA for replacement of a 34.5 KW reactor at the MAta de Nance substation and replacement of 34.5 KW circuit breakers at Substation Progress for $1.6 million.

With a price tag of $234 million, Odebrecht obtained the highest score in the tender for the design and construction of a third power transmission line.

Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica S.A. (ETESA) this morning presented the results of the total scores for the technical and economic evaluations of bids submitted by Consorcio Interconexión Panamá and Constructora Norberto Odebrecht for the design, supply, construction and financing of a third transmission line Veladero - Llano Sanchez - La Chorrera - Panama, in 230kV and adaptation to the associated substations. Meeting the deadlines set out in the Public Procurement Act 22, the company with the highest score in the bid was Constructora Norberto Obredecht.

The Brazilian construction company awarded the second stage of the cleanup works in Caldera River.

The first stage was awarded to company "Ceiba Panama", and comprised cleaning the first 7 kilometers of the waterway.

Manolo Ruiz, Mayor of Boquete, stated that "the company must clean up all garbage, trees and objects affecting the free flow of water", and that "they will erect containment walls to protect houses close to the river from unexpected flooding".
