Following the outbreak of covid-19 in the world, the authorities in the U.S. and several countries in Europe and Asia, have ordered the closure of shopping centers, bars, restaurants and cafes, a situation that has caused the drop in consumption globally.

Guillermo Jacoby, president of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua (Apen) told Laprensa.com.ni that "... 'seen two things that are happening, first there is a widespread problem in logistics in terms of arrears and we see a trend that commodities are going down because global consumption is also falling."

For the recession reported in 2009, we had the experience that cheese, lobster and shrimp were among the most affected products, as exports fell by 70% in the case of dairy, and 30% in both seafood products.

José Ángel Buitrago, president of the Association of Coffee Exporters of Nicaragua (Excan), explained that "... now that the virus is out of control, the consumption of the big economies is already down and now being when Nicaragua will feel the ravages on its products sold abroad."
