Companies in the sector expect to generate $660 million in revenue this year, mainly driven by an increase in tourist spending.

In addition to an increase in the number of visitors to the country, companies in the sector also expect a rise in the average daily expenditure of tourists, which at the close of the third quarter registered anincrease of 8.5% compared to the previous quarter.
The former president of the National Chamber of Tourism of Nicaragua (Canatur), Silvia de Levy, told Elnuevodiario.com.ni"...'We are seeing that average spending is growing a little bit and thattourists are extending their stay in the country. We are diversifying, all tourism entrepreneurs are being asked to diversify their products, to see what other activities can be done.For example, in Managua there are more things to do because of all of the investments that have been made'."
For his part,"...Leonardo Torres, president of the Nicaraguan Chamber of Small and Medium Tourist Enterprises, projected a 16% increase in foreign exchange earnings from tourism for in 2017."
The Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism has unveiled a strategy which aims to increase the number of tourists especially in summer, promoting the main tourist routes in the country.
It is expected that the plan called "Nicaragua Our Summer 2015", will be implemented from February and will run until April this year.
Between January and September, 965,369 tourists arrived in the country, 7.1% more than in the same period in 2013.

The average expenditure of 1.27 million tourists who visited the country in 2013 amounted to $41 per day, while for South Americans the figure was $71.
In 2013 the number of tourists visiting Nicaragua increased by 3.3% compared to 2012, when the country received 1.23 million visitors. Of the total amount in 2013, 23.7% were from North America; 6.5% from Europe; 2.1% from South America and 2.2% from other parts of the world.
