Nicaragua Soon to Export Pork

Pork producers estimate that next year will see the beginning of exports, once the country is declared free of Classical Swine Fever.

Milton Arcia, from the Association of Nicaraguan Pork Producers, indicated that the whole country is expected to be declared free of the disease by November or December this year. Exports could then begin next year.

Nicaragua's Minister for Forests and Farming, Ariel Bucardo, told Laprensa.com.ni that, "we are happy for any investigations, audits or evaluations to be carried out by international consultants in order to prove the quality of Nicaraguan pork".

The union of pig farmers has already contacted neighboring countries to express their interest in resuming pork exports, after the country declared itself free of swine fever in August.

Sector authorities are waiting for documents endorsed by international agencies.

On the subject, Ariel Bucardo, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, said that they just need for international animal health agencies to certify the documentation collected by the country's agricultural authorities confirming that in Nicaragua, since 2008, no single case of swine fever in pig farms has been recorded.
