Nicaragua: Increase in Sugar Crop

Nicaraguan sugar producers are confident that the harvest which was recently started will bring in more than the 15.6 million quintals of sugar produced in the last cycle, reaching 17 million.

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

This was explained Mario Amador, general manager of the National Committee of Sugar Producers (CNPA). This would mean an increase of 8.9% compared to the 2012-13 harvest.

The official said that the harvest expected to generate revenues of $200 million, which would exceed the $180 million earned in the last cycle.

The projected growth of the current crop is based on the increase in the amount of land planted with sugarcane.

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports: "The four mills that make up the sugar industry, Monte Rosa, San Antonio, Benjamin Zeledon and Montelimar, will harvest a total of 104,000 hectares in this period, higher than the 96,317 in the previous cycle ."

"There is a better crop yield expected because there was much more stable behaviour in the winter," said Amador .
