Nicaragua: Increase in Air Passenger Traffic

In the first half of the year the number of air passengers who arrived in and left the country grew by 8%, with 343,000 coming in and 304,000 passengers going out.

Although Nicaragua is a country with little international air connectivity in the first 6 months of 2014 there were more passengers coming in from abroad than those leaving the country. The difference amounts to more than 10 thousand people.

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that "... In the case of passengers going abroad between January and June this year ... there was an increase of 6.6% compared to last year's figures ".

"As for the passengers who arrived in the country in the period under review, there was an increase of 9.2% compared to the figures in 2013 ...."

Growing Air Traffic in Nicaragua

In the last four years the number of international commercial flights that arrived in the country has grown by 26%, while the number of passengers went up 25% in the same period.

Statistics from Empresa Administradora de Aeropuertos Internacionales (EAAI) show that while in 2013 the country received 6,356 international commercial flights with 549,000 passengers, last year these figures rose to 8,032 flights and 674,000 passengers.

During the first seven months of 2014, Tocumen International Airport which was recently given an award by the World Travel Awards, recorded an overall rate of 4, 881.985 passengers, compared with 4,454.529 users who used the Panamanian terminal in the same period in 2013, representing an increase of 9.6%, stated a report provided by the Department of Statistics.

Transit Through Tocumen Airport Up 12%

January 2014

In 2013 more than 7 million passengers passed through the Panamanian International Airport, 744,000 more than in the previous year.

Data from the Department of Statistics at Tocumen International Airport (TIA) reveals that passenger movement this December was 1.8 million, up 6.1% compared to the same month in 2012.

Over the last four years passenger traffic at Nicaraguan airports grew by 7.5% .

This was reported by the International Airports Management Company. In the first eight months of 2009 345,473 passengers arrived at Managua International Airport .

Official statistics show that July was the month when the most tourists entered the country, with 56,257 visitors.
