Nicaragua: How to Take Advantage of Adventure Tourism

Entrepreneurs in the sector are looking to develop this segment of the tourist market, highlighting the country's characteristics that are ideal for offering activities such as trekking and visits to volcanoes.

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

The objective should be to focus on the North American and European markets, where most tourists are looking for activities such as biking, hiking, rafting, visits to biological reserves and volcanoes, among other things.

Sylvia de Levy, director at the Nicaraguan National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), told Laprensa.com.ni that "... in recent months they have worked with tour operators, hotels and staff who attend tourists who come in search of adventure to improve conditions and services. These destinations should be sold as an option within adventure tourism, a market that still has more to give the country."

"... Registations at the Intur show that the visitors who carry out more adventure activities are North Americans. In 2016 alone, of 100% of surfers, 50% were North American; 45% did canopy tours and 44% kayaking."
