Nicaragua Has Outdated Oil Fields Map

The map on the internet which offered oil concessions in geographical areas who's sovereignty is disputed has been removed.

Friday, August 16, 2013

For its part, and after an exchange of notes between both governments, Colombia has acknowledged that the concessions given so far by Nicaragua are from areas where
Nicaraguan sovereignty has not been disputed.

"I want to be very clear and emphatic on this: the concessions granted by the government of Nicaragua in July this year are concessions that are west of the 82nd meridian," said Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin.

The clarification was made after a protest made by Colombia two weeks ago over the oil concessions offered by Nicaragua allegedly in waters belonging to the South American country, nears the keys it possesses in the archipelago of San Andrés.

The Nicaraguan government defended itself, saying "the offer shown on the website of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the country was outdated and that the information has been removed," noted an article in Cb24.tv.

"One thing is the concessions that the government has granted on the Nicaragua side and quite another thing is those that it offered a few weeks ago and which they had on their website," explained Holguin.
