Nicaragua: Conversion Plan For Livestock Sector

The plan announced by the government aims to modernize livestock production systems in areas such as food, health, environment, business management and finance.

With an investment of $100 million, the program "Competitive Restructuring of Bovine Livestock in Nicaragua" is scheduled to run in four stages over 16 years, and it s projected that in its first half it will benefit an estimated 51,000 farms nationwide with improvements in development of infrastructure, grazing, commercial aspects, cattle traceability, animal welfare and transport.

"Ronald Blandon, General Manager of the National Cattlemen Association of Nicaragua (CONAGAN), said this initiative forms part of the efforts made by the livestock sector for several years with organizations such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and until recently the Rural Development Institute ... to work together on a proposal for the nation. "

"According to the director, the program includes projects in areas such as food, health, environmental, business management and finance ... The industry is pushing for a traceability process which would allow entry into markets such as the European Union, which pays good prices for beef."

Nicaragua Launches Livestock Traceability Program

The project entitled TRAZAR-nic will be integrated into the Bovine Traceability Program of the Government of Nicaragua in order to manage the processes of certification and traceability of cattle.

An article in Laprensa.com.ni reports that "This program will complement the technical regulations NTON 11-026-10, for the registration and identification of bovine animals, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Magfor) in October 2011. '

Nicaraguan Cattle Growers Question New Slaughterhouses
