Nicaragua: Construction to Grow 10% in 2018

The union of builders anticipates a good year for the sector, mainly due to an increase expected in the development of road works.

Thursday, January 11, 2018

Data from the Central Bank indicates that the construction sector grew 5.4% in 2017, and that this year it could grow 9.9%. This projection is consistent with the expectations of construction entrepreneurs, who believe that the construction of roads and other public infrastructure will underpin the activity of the sector this year.

The president of the Nicaraguan Chamber of Construction (CNC) Rodrigo Pereira, told Elnuevodiario.com.ni that "... a lot of projects are coming up from the public investment program, having completed bidding processes in 2017. These are the projects of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI). The one on the South Highway has already started, which goes more or less from kilometer nine to Diriamba and from Diriamba to Nandaime.  It is a project that involves complete resurfacing and there will be stretches of road of almost four lanes."

"... On the other hand, the construction sector representative said that they are very confident that they will continue to develop private works in the country, such as shopping centers, free zone expansions, hotels, offices and warehouses, as well as investments in the residential sector."
