Nicaragua: Increases in Meat Exports

The guild has stated that producers are accelerating the shipment of cattle to slaughterhouses in order to increase production and take advantage of the increase in the international price of meat.

Meat prices in the international market have seen increases of up to 3% and 4% in recent months, positioning exports of meat products in second place of total exports.

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that "... So far this year, meat has generated $336 million and is in second place, after coffee at $362 million and above gold, which generated foreign exchange of $302 million. "

Rene Blandon, president of the National Cattlemen's Association of Nicaragua, predicted that "... Exports of all items produced by the livestock sector will exceed those of 2013. Among them are meat, milk, hides, cattle, among others. "

Meat Processing Plant in Panama

An announcement has been made that negotiations are taking place with Chinese investors to build a slaughterhouse to process and export beef from La Chorrera.

The project, valued at $8 million, is seeking foreign capital investment and from representatives from the Municipality of La Chorrera, in order to create a joint venture to develop the plant and then allocate production to the local market, China and the United States.
