The Ortega administration explained that $49 million relates to a loan signed with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and another $10 million will be provided by the state. The bridges will be built on the Caribbean coast, in the areas of Prinzapolka, Labu, Lisawe and Mulukukú.

Vice President Rosario Murillo said: "... 'These bridges will ensure mobility in this provincial capital which is so important and will unite the population of the Pacific and the Caribbean. The Rio Blanco-Mulukukú highway has been completed, now work is being done on the construction of these new bridges'."

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that "...The loan will have a term of 40 years with a 10 year grace period, with an interest rate of 0.10% for construction costs and 0.01% for design consultancy costs, reported Nicaragua's government through official channels."
