Nicaragua: $25 million for Health Infrastructure

According to the Public Investment Program, the Ministry of Health has prepared a budget for 2013 of $25 million in order to renovate hospital infrastructure.

The projects include the renovation of two national referral hospitals the children’s hospital Manuel de Jesús Rivera " La Mascota ", and the women’s hospital "Bertha Calderon", with an investment of $3.5 million.

Other works budgeted for and reported by Elnuevodiario.com which sourced the Public Investment Program, will be for the renovation of eight health centers in the country's interior, a supply center, two warehouses, a bunker for the National Radio Therapy Center.

Investments will also be made in the construction or replacement of five family health centers in Estelí, San Carlos, Rio San Juan, Santa Teresa, Carazo; Ayapal community, San José de Bocay, La Libertad, Chontales, and the construction of a center for alternative medicine, in Managua.

The next biggest investment will be in the medical equipment at health units for primary and secondary care.

The Congress has ratified a loan with the Inter-American Development Bank to build two hospitals and make improvements to the health system.

The Legislative Assembly reported that " ... After constant approaches to achieve the required consensus, the Legislative Assembly unanimously ratified the loan contract between the Executive and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for $170 million to finance the Integrated Health Program II. Investment in Private Hospitals Grows

An IADB loan will finance a 400-bed hospital in the department of San Salvador and another 100-bed facility in the northern zone of the same department.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a loan of $170 million to strengthen El Salvador's hospital network.

Investment in Operating Rooms in Costa Rica

April 2012

The Social Security Department will carry out renovation work on infrastructure and equipment of operating rooms, for some $14 million.

An investment of $13.8 million in the San Juan de Dios Hospital in the capital will include the renovation of the 15 operating rooms the institution has. Work will begin in April and May and should be completed within one year, said the director of the Hospital, Hilda Oreamuno.
