Next Steps for Customs Union Between Guatemala and Honduras

The governments have confirmed that the process of technical implementation of the customs union will take between five to six months.

The Minister of Economy and Finance Ruben Morales referred to the process of the Customs Union between Guatemala and Honduras as "a gradual and progressive process, since its implementation will take five to six months. This process involves several institutions in the two countries. "

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Guatemala:

After issuing Decree 03-2016 of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala, it must be sanctioned by the President and published in the Official Newspaper. The Protocol will enter into force eight days after the date of deposit of delivery of the Protocol to the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System -SICA.

"The Protocol provides for the accession of other States Party to the General Treaty of Central American Economic Integration. El Salvador has already expressed its interest in joining this system," said Minister Morales.
