New Entrepreneurship Law in Guatemala

On January 29, the Law to Strengthen Entrepreneurship came into force, which includes creating training centers and facilitating access to credit for small businessmen.

Guatemalan authorities reported that with the entry into force of the Law, will incorporate entrepreneurship in primary and secondary education, in addition to creating a new figure called Entrepreneurship Society, among other actions.

Gloria Zarazúa, vice minister of development of MSMEs, told Dca.gob.gt that "... the Law for Strengthening Entrepreneurship contemplates incentives for financing, because any contribution made by an individual or legal entity to an entrepreneurial society will be considered non-refundable capital and, therefore, will be deductible from Income Tax."

Zarazúa added that "... In this first phase of the law's entry into force, we have 60 days for the general regulations, which have already been transferred to the General Secretariat of the Presidency and the Attorney General's Office, to be approved by means of a governmental agreement."
