From January to April 2019 the company Apple Vacations will be running a weekly charter flight between the airport of Liberia, Guanacaste, and Rockford in Illinois, United States.

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) reported that the route which will bring 2,340 tourists to the country will have a weekly frequency.
Costa Rica's President Carlos Alvarado said that "...'We have confirmed the arrival of a new flight to Costa Rica, it is Apple Vacations, which will fly from Illinois to Liberia initially between January and April.'"
For his part, Hermes Navarro, Head of Investment Attraction at the ICT, told Nacion.com that "... the incorporation of these operations is due to the demand generated by these markets, which have expressed an interest in vacationing in our country."
JetBlue announced the addition of a second weekly flight from Boston and Apple Vacations will incorporate the Liberia Missouri-Saint Louis route, which will be operated by XTRAirways.
JetBlue will operate its second flight on Sunday in a A320 aircraft with capacity for 150 passengers, starting in January and to be maintained throughout the season.
Air Canada is to operate a weekly flight between Montreal and Guanacaste, while Apple Vacations will offer a weekly connection from Chicago.
Air Canada's inaugural flight to Costa Rica's north west is planned for the end of December and will seek to serve the market of travelers interested in "tropical" destinations, explained representatives of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT in Spanish).
From January 14th, 2011, Apple Vacations Tourism Company will offer a direct flight between Liberia and Chicago.
The new route will be operated by the airline USA3000, with vacation packages aimed at middle and upper-middle class citizens.
These packages "... include tours of three to four nights at La Fortuna and Monteverde. Apple Vacations also offers tours to San Jose, Manuel Antonio, Arenal, Tortuguero, and Turrialba".
