New Company Registrations Grow

Reports state that in 2017 the registration of mercantile companies in Guatemala grew 10% compared to 2016.

Figures from the Mercantile Registry (RM by its initials in Spanish) also detailed that the registration of individual traders grew by 9.3% with respect to 2016. Dca.gob.gt reports that "...On the other hand, 3 thousand companies closed down, a figure that exceeded 2,040 two years ago."

Multinational Fukurawa Opens in Panama

The company, with presence in 85 countries, announced it will open a branch in Panama City.

Fukurawa was founded in Japan in 1875, specializing in creation of electronic materials and chemicals, real estate, fuel, machinery and metals.

Laestrella.com.pa reports, “Minister Roberto Henriquez said the decision made by the Furukawa Company Ltd., to open offices in Panama, is in line with many other multinational companies which have recognized that in order to serve their markets in the Americas the connectivity, commercial facilities, social stability and the good economic policies provided by Panama, are hardly matched by other countries.”

Guatemala: Company Registration Down 13%

28.220 new companies were registered in 2009, 13.4% less than in 2008.

Just 362 companies were registered at the Public Commerce Registry in December 2009, the lowest monthly figure in the year, the average being 2.500.

"Despite the drop in creation of new companies, the number of closures was lower. 3.082 companies were closed in 2009, less than the 3.307 closed in 2008", reported Elperiodico.com.gt.

Company Registration Drops by 20.4% in Guatemala

Between January and February 2009, 785 companies were registered, 202 fewer than during the same period in 2008.

Statistics from the Mercantile Registry published in elPeriódico of Guatemala showed that when the first two months of 2009 are compared with the same period in 2008, company registration fell by 20.4%, commercial companies by 16.6% and individual merchants by 20.5%.
