New Cigar Factory in Honduras

The construction of a new tobacco factory making cigars for export has begun in Jacaleapa in the South of the country, with an investment of $1 million.

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

The new tobacco plant in Jaleapa, a community in southern Honduras, will produce cigars for export. It represents an investment of 20 million lempiras, a little over $1 million, by a group of Spanish businessmen.

Work on the building should be finished in June. Jorge Jimenez, Jacaleapa’s mayor, said the site for the factory comprises 1.6 hectares of land donated by the municipal corporation. It is estimated that the factory will create about 450 jobs, states an article on Elheraldo.hn.

"The Spanish investors decided to set up in our town because of our community’s proximity to the cities of Tegucigalpa, Danli, El Paraiso, Los Manos and also to Nicaragua," said Jimenez.
