Edmundo Vallejo, GE Money Latin America president, reported that the decision to invest in Guatemala was due to the modern telecommunications infrastructure, a young, educated and bilingual workforce, and its strategic location. However, he pointed out that the country should not rest and instead keep improving its competitiveness.

24/7 Customer inaugurated its second call center, which will employ 1.000 people in 2010.

The company has an aggressive expansion plan for the country, which will only be restricted by the availability of bilingual personnel.

V Bharathwaj, company manager, told "... for each direct job, the company could create 4 additional ones in related activities like transportation, maintenance or security, among others".

Sykes inaugurates new call center in Costa Rica

At an investment of $4 million, Sykes, a pioneer in opening call centers in the country, inaugurated a new center in Moravia yesterday.

They plan to hire some 3000 employees, the president of the company, Chuck Sykes, affirmed.
The firm currently has 2500 workers. Most of them (2370) work in the office located at Global Park in Heredia; the rest (130) work at the new site.

Datascension expands in Limón, Costa Rica

The Costa Rican Call Center Datascension has moved to Limón in hopes that worker turnover in the Caribbean center will be less than it was in the capital.

The saturation of call centers in the Central Valley was a big factor to encourage Datascension to look for opportunities outside the capital.

Call centers to create 1,500 jobs in Guatemala

24/7 Customer, a company from India, has decided to establish a call center near La Aurora Airport, in an area called Ciudad Aeropuerto (Airport City).

The 500 new jobs it generates will be in addition to those created by the Mexican company RY6 Global, which recently started operations in Airport City with a call center of 100 employees and space for 500 more in the coming years.
