As of November 2, American Airlines will begin operating the route between the U.S. city of Austin, Texas, and the Costa Rican province of Guanacaste.

The new route will be offered to the public three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) and arises at the request of the airline's customers, who were looking for more connections and international non-stop alternatives for the fall and winter season, informed the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT).
Gustavo Segura said that "... as part of the ongoing efforts to attract airlines and increase frequencies by the ICT we are extremely pleased with the confirmation by American Airlines of these three weekly flights from Austin, Texas to the Liberia air terminal."
Cesar Jaramillo, General Manager of CORIPORT - concessionaire of the Airport - expressed that "... a new route has been added to the Guanacaste Airport from Austin, Texas. This new flight will come three times a week, starting next November 2nd. Our tourists will find in Guanacaste a safe multi-destination during their visit."
Last May, 72,329 U.S. tourists entered the country by air to both airports, 73% of the amount that entered in the same month of 2019, before the pandemic, consolidating itself as the fastest recovering issuing market. In the first five months of 2021, the country recorded the total entry of 270,478 tourists from the United States by all routes, highlights the official statement.

Starting June 6, the U.S. airline will resume flights to Juan Santamaria and Daniel Oduber Quiros international airports, offering a daily route from Houston, Texas to San Jose and Liberia, as well as a weekly flight from Baltimore, Maryland to Guanacaste.
