New Agro-Industrial Plant in Costa Rica

An industrial plant for the processing of vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy products, roots and tubers will be built in the canton of Coto Brus, province of Puntarenas.

The Costa Rican government awarded the contract for the construction of this industrial complex to the company Vidalco Empresa Constructora. It is estimated that the overall investment will be approximately $3 million.

The Value-Added Plant, which will be located in Agua Buena de Coto Brus, will have the infrastructure, technology and professional equipment necessary to add value to agricultural products by processing them, reported the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Trade.

The official document adds that "... the product lines that will work are: vegetables, fruits, grains, dairy and roots and tubers, and the services that will be offered are: development of prototypes, scaling, process optimization, maquila, equipment and facilities rental, technical consultation and services by alliance."

The award of this tender was published in the Official Journal La Gaceta on Thursday March 5, 2020.

Construction of Agro-Industrial Plant Endorsed

With the rejection of the appeal presented by one of the participating companies, the General Comptroller of the Republic gave the green light to the construction of an agricultural plant in the Southern Zone of Costa Rica.

In March, the contract for the construction of this industrial complex had been awarded to the company Vidalco Constructora, but the process was temporarily interrupted with the filing of an appeal by one of the participating companies.

More Agro-Industrial Investment in Nicaragua

The opening of three processing plants for beans, plantains, cassava and avocado, in León, Rivas and Nueva Guinea is expected for 2018, with an estimated investment of $8 million.

Representatives from the Union of Agricultural Producers in Nicaragua (Upanic) detailed that the plant to be constructed in Leon will be dedicated to the processing of green and ripe plantains, and those from New Guinea to processing roots and tubers.
