In El Salvador, twelve renewable energy generation projects with a total capacity of 23 MW are preparing to start operations between 2018 and 2020.

The National Energy Council (CNE) reported that the dozen energy generation projects, which will begin operations in the period between 2018, 2019 and 2020, will have the capacity to supply electricity to 771.350 households in the country.

Elmundo.sv reports that "... two photovoltaic solar energy plants will begin operations in the last months of 2018 and by 2019 nine other projects of the same technology will be added. The first wind farm in El Salvador is expected in 2020."

"... From the 12 projects, seven correspond to generations awarded in two public tenders, for 100 and 170 megawatts (MW), respectively. The other five are part of the second and third stage of Bósforo, an investment by AES El Salvador and the Corporación Multi Inversiones (CMI) which includes the construction of 10 plants with photovoltaic solar technology."

El Salvador: 29 Companies Bid for 170 MW

October 2016

19 companies submitted 29 bids in the tender for renewable energy, of which 25 correspond to photovoltaic solar energy and 4 to wind power.

From a statement issued by Delsur:

San Salvador, 26 October 2016. The Electricity Distribution company DELSUR, in coordination with other distributors in the country, held this day the act of receiving both technical and economic offers from all parties interested in investing in renewable energy generation based solar photovoltaic and wind power, as part of the process to tender 170 megawatts (MW) of power and associated energy.

Renewable Energy Capacity in El Salvador

August 2015

It has been estimated that in the next six years more than 900 MW of additional power will be generated from renewable sources.

A study produced in conjunction with American Cooperation Agency (USAID) revealed that "... from this year until 2021 it is expected that generation capacity will grow by 145.7 MW in energ from hydropower sources, by 102 MW from geothermal sources and 380 MW using natural gas.

Panama: License for 10MW Solar Farm

July 2014

A provisional license has been granted to the company Divisa Solar 10 MW for the construction and operation of a photovoltaic plant called DIVISA SOLAR in the province of Cocle.

Tender for 100 MW of Renewable Energy in El Salvador

February 2014

There are now twenty companies, both Salvadoran and from other countries that have purchased bidding rules for the supply of energy.

About 20 companies have acquired the bidding rules for the supply of 100 MW of power to be contracted out with two technologies of generation; they are 60 MW using photovoltaic systems and 40 MW using wind power.
