Motorcycles: Imports Fall 11%

From January to June 2020, motorcycle imports in Central America totaled $164 million, 11% less than in the same period in 2019, a decrease that is explained by the behavior of purchases from El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and Costa Rica.

Central American Shopping Downwards
Between the first half of 2019 and the same period in 2020, the value imported into the region decreased by 11%, from $184 million to $164 million.

In contrast to the behavior of imports in general, for the periods in question purchases made from Indian companies increased, in this case by 5%, growing from $52.8 million to $55.5 million.

Guatemala, Main Importer
In the first six months of 2020, the main importer in the region continued to be Guatemala with $82 million, followed by Honduras with $30 million, Costa Rica with $20 million, El Salvador with $15 million, Nicaragua with $14 million and Panama with $4 million.

Nicaragua and Guatemala were the only Central American countries that increased their imports during the first semester of the year, registering year-on-year variations of 34% and 6%, respectively.

Costa Rica reported a -18% variation, Panama -25%, Honduras -32% and El Salvador -40%.

Most Important Suppliers
From January to June, 53% of the value imported from Central America came from China, 34% from India, 2% from the USA, 2% from Japan and 2% from Germany.

India is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most for the period in question in recent years, since in 2012 purchases from that country represented 25% and in 2020 the proportion rose to 34%.
