More Walmarts in Central America

The Mexican and Central America division of the retail giant plans to invest almost $1.5 billion in the six countries of their jurisdiction, adding over 400 stores to the chain.

Mexican and Central America Walmart has with ambitious plans for 2012. With an investment of $1.4 billion, it aims to open 410 to 436 new stores in its geographical area of coverage (6 countries), generating 25,000 direct jobs and 52,000 indirect ones via building construction. The giant aims to increase its sales by 12% in Mexico and 9% in the 5 Central American countries.

In a statement from Walmart Scot Rank, Executive Chairman and CEO of Walmart, Mexico and Central America, said “We believe that our investment will benefit our clients, partners and suppliers and the communities we serve."

PriceSmart Invests $20 million in Costa Rica

The store chain for members only has opened its sixth location in the country, with an area of 21 thousand square meters.

This is the 18th branch of PriceSmart in Central America and the largest of all that have been established in Costa Rica. The property comprises of two levels and a parking lot for 320 vehicles.

New Walmart Store in El Salvador

With an investment of $6.8 million the multinational retailer will open a second store under the Maxi Despensa format in July.

In a 1,600 square meter area the works being carried out are now 70% complete.
"In terms of employment opportunities, on Monday June 4, Walmart held a job fair attended by about 3,000 people from Santa Ana, from these around 60 will be recruited for middle management positions, administration and operational areas as such as cashiers, sales, warehouse staff and others.

Walmart to Invest $84 Million in Guatemala

The multinational retail company has announced the opening of 25 new stores in the country.

By the end of 2011, Walmart will open 25 new stores, bringing to 200 the total number in Guatemala. It will also carry out remodeling works at its hypermarket style stores branded Maxi Bodega and Despensa Familiar, according to Alberto Ebrard, executive vice-president and general manager for the firm's Mexican and Central American operations.

Walmart Will Open 4 new Stores in Honduras

April 2010

As part of its expansion plan for 2010, the supermarket chain will open 4 new stores in the country.

Mey Hung, Corporate Affairs director for Walmart in Honduras, told newspaper El Heraldo that “our recent investment in Honduras signals that the Central American market is growing rapidly and provides interesting opportunities”.
