More European Tourists Came to Panama in 2017

Last year almost 228,000 visitors from Europe came to the country, 8% more than the figure recorded in 2016.

The European airlines that increased passenger revenue in 2017 were: Iberia, with a total of 69,381 passengers, some 9,501 more than in 2016, with a growth of 15.9%; and KLM, with a total of 55,519 passengers, about 2,044 more than in 2016, an increase of 3.8%.

From a statement issued by the Tourism Authority of Panama:

A total of 227,963 European visitors came to the country from January to December 2017, about 17,070 more compared to 2016, that is to say, an increase of 8.1%.

The European airlines that increased passenger revenue in 2017 were: Iberia, with a total of 69,381 passengers, some 9,501 more than in 2016, with a growth of 15.9%; and KLM, with a total of 55,519 passengers, about 2,044 more than in 2016, increasing by 3.8%. 

Air France follows with a total of 51,326 passengers, some 7,940 more than in 2016, with an increase of 18.3%. 

These travelers mainly come in search of experiences with nature and culture, going to destinations such as Bocas del Toro, Boquete, Tierras Altas, Boca Chica, Pedasi, the Azuero region, the beaches of the Pacific and the Antón Valley in Coclé.

The connectivity of the country, through direct flights to key destinations in Europe such as Spain, Germany, France, the Netherlands and charter flights from Poland continues to strengthen Panama as a Hub of the Americas.

Tourist Arrivals Up 6% up to May 2018

During the first five months of 2018, the Dominican Republic recorded the arrival of 2.8 million tourists, 6% more than was reported in the same period in 2017.

From a Report by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic:

The arrival of non-resident passengers by air to the Dominican Republic, including foreigners and Dominicans, registered a year-on-year growth of 7.0% in the month of May, reaching a total of 506,178 passengers, equivalent to an increase of 33,290 passengers with respect to the same month of the previous year. Within this result, the segment of foreigners presented an annualized variation of 6.0% (24,867 additional tourists) and non-resident Dominicans experienced an interannual increase of 13.7% (8,423 additional passengers). 

Costa Rica: Arrival of European Tourists Up 6%

August 2017

Between January and June, 219 thousand tourists came into the country from Europe, 6% more than the figure recorded in the first half of last year.

From a statement issued by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute:

During the first half of 2017, Europe showed steady growth in international arrivals (8.4% by air and a 6% increase for all routes to the country), according to data provided by the Directorate General of Migration and Aliens and analyzed by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.

More European Travelers Using Tocumen

July 2017

Between January and May 2017, 102,388 passengers from Europe entered Panama through Tocumen International Airport, 25% more than in the same period in 2016.

From a statement issued by the Tourism Authority of Panama:
 
From January to May 2017, a total of 102,388 passengers from Europe came into the country through Tocumen International Airport, some 20,754 more than in the same period in 2016, a growth of 25.4%.

February 2015

During the year 2.3 million tourists came into the country, of which 48% came from South America, 24.3% from North America, 12.7% from Central America and 2.5% of the Antilles.

The increase of 4.7% compared to 2013 did not solve the problem of low occupancy in hotels, because the supply of rooms also continued to rise. A drop of 20% was reported in financial income from this sector.
