More Boutique Hotels in Costa Rica

Seven new establishments with high quality personalized service will add 291 rooms to the hotel inventory with its opening in tourist areas and in the capital.

There are currently 45 boutique hotels and the arrival of another seven is expected soon, some of which are already under construction and others are awaiting the appropriate permissions to operate. This line of business in the hotel industry is aimed at high net worth clients, offering exclusivity and more personalized services.

Certification as a boutique hotel, as awarded by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) is not mandatory, it is a voluntary process. Therefore only 13 of the 45 boutique hotels have this certification. reports that "... This type of accommodation is not for mass tourism, but for affluent clients looking for good service, tranquility and comfort, therefore the hotels usually only have a few rooms. "

Gustavo Alvarado, director of tourism management and counseling at the ICT, added "... This segment has a positive and promising future for the country, as recent trends suggest that those who invest in their vacation, do so in environments at that level. " "... Boutique tourism and conventions and congresses, are greater possibilities and in which Costa Rica should invest. "

The largest Honduran public-private tourist investment project, under development in Tela Bay, will feature a luxury 120 room boutique hotel and will be operated by one of the most experienced hotel chains in the United States.
