Microsoft invests $8 million in technology projects in El Salvador

The software company Microsoft has invested 8 million dollars in the development of projects to facilitate access to information technology in El Salvador.

Since 1998 the company has spent part of its budget on equipping study centers and the development of custom software for the learning needs of El Salvador's students.
"We are proud to have narrowed the digital gap in this country," said Ana María Rossi of Microsoft.
The company spokesperson made the statement on the occasion of an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Microsoft's presence in El Salvador.

Software Piracy Sums $30 Million in El Salvador

Illegal copies of software abound; they allegedly represent 80% of all the computer programs used in the country.

Robert Ivanschitz, Microsoft’s legal director, told newspaper La Prensa Gráfica that “the state wins when legal software is used, as it collects taxes”.

He remarked that the country’s legal framework in this matter is not up to date, and that the government faces the challenge of maintaining it in line with the current reality. Ivanschitz commented that this problem is not exclusive to El Salvador, as it also occurs in the rest of Central America.
