The Mexican Institute of Intellectual Property is demanding that the FTA under negotiation include a chapter on intellectual property rights.

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

Miguel Ángel Margáin, director of the Mexican Institute of Intellectual Property (IMPI), made a request to "include" one more chapter "on intellectual property in each treaty to be signed, as occurred in the FTAs signed by Mexico with the United States and Canada in 1994 ", reported Prensa.com.

The company, explained Margáin, is working with other authorities "to give certainty to the principle held by the Institute, to provide mechanisms to protect the fruits of innovation and invention."

"As a cornerstone of the IMPI, the fruits of innovation are protected by intellectual property formats, such as copyrights, trademarks and patents. This means that all these fruits have to be protected in order to generate economic growth," he added.
