Metropolitan Ring Road for $4 billion

The feasibility studies for a highway linking the eight municipalities of the department of Guatemala were announced for 2014.

Tuesday, October 29, 2013 reports that the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) will carry out in 2014 a feasibility study for the construction of the Metropolitan Ring Road project, a study which "will cost approximately $5 million."

The present administration of Perez Molina will leave the project for the next government to carry out, estimated to cost more than $4 billion.

" ... The Minister of Communications, Alejandro Sinibaldi , explained that the project consists of a road linking the eight municipalities of Guatemala that have routes into the capital, among them Mixco, San Jose Pinula and Amatitlán. This will help ease traffic arteries into and inside the city substantially, but because it is considered a mega-project 'just talking about it is difficult," said the official, who said that this government is only contemplating conducting feasibility studies .
