Panama Subway: Tender for Extension of Line 2

A tender has been published for the design and construction of a branch line that will connect the future Higher Technical Institute of the East, with the international airport of Tocumen.

"Requirements are for design engineering services, construction of civil works, auxiliary line installations and stations, and interfaces for the start-up of the branch line that connects Line 2 of the Panama Metro with the Higher Technical Institute of the East (ITSE) and Tocumen International Airport (AIT).

On May 16, 2018 at 10:00 am there will be a tour at the project site. "

Data from the interactive system "Construction in Central America", compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData, indicates that in August Metro de Panamá S.A. submitted an Environmental Impact Study (EIA) to the Ministry of the Environment.

According to the EIA, the project which will be developed between the towns of Tocumen and Las Mañanitas, in the district and province of Panama, and will involve building a 2-kilometer elevated line that starts on the side of the Line 2 station under construction in front of the UTP and will go along the south side of Avenida Domingo Díaz, passing over the cloverleaf interchange located at the exit of the South Corridor at Tocumen, until it reaches the first station to be built between the INADEH facilities and the future Higher Technical Institute in Tocumen (ITSE). From there the journey continues to its second station, at the airport's new south terminal.

The type of trains that will be used will be similar to those used on Line 1. They are of the conventional type with steel wheels, composed of a maximum of five cars of an approximate length of 86 meters. With the expansion, Line 2 will have an initial passenger transport capacity for 4,000 passengers / hour / direction (AW2 cargo) and 6000 passengers / hour / direction (AW3 cargo), considering a target frequency of 10 minutes. Tender to Extend Metro Line 2 Delayed

August 2018

August 31 is the new date to submit proposals to design and build the branch that will connect the future Higher Technical Institute of the East, with Tocumen International Airport.

Metro de Panamá has granted a second extension to the deadline for delivery of bids, so that the companies interested in the tender can present their proposals for the work, which consists of the construction of a stretch of two kilometers, which will have two stations.

Panama Metro: Details on the Line 2 Extension Project

An environmental impact study was submitted last August for the expansion of the Metro's Line 2, which will be connected with the new southern terminal at Tocumen International Airport.

Tender for Line 2 Extension In November

October 2017

The Environmental Impact Study for the 2-kilometer extension of the Metro to Tocumen Airport's passenger terminal has been approved and the publication of the tender rules for the adjudication of the work with an estimated amount of $125 million was announced.

The director of Metro de Panama, Robert Roy, announced that at the end of November or the beginning of December, the tender documents will be published for the works on the extension of Line 2 up to the passenger terminal at Tocumen.
