Variation in exports
During the first three months of 2018, the total value of exports of metalliferous minerals from Central America grew 99% compared to the same period last year, rising from $16 million to $33 million.

This increase is partly explained by sales to Belgium and Mexico, since sales to the EU increased from $4.2 million to $13.7 million for the periods considered, and from $3.4 million to $11.7 million for the USA.

Exports by country
In the first quarter of the year Honduras was the largest exporter of metalliferous minerals, selling $26 million, followed by Guatemala with $7 million, and El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica reported foreign sales of less than one million. Panama has not reported exports.

Export destination
Between January and March 2018, 42% of Central American sales were directed to Belgium, 36% to Mexico, 16% to China and 5% to Ukraine.
