Metallic Mining: Sales to Mexico Keep Growing

From January to September 2018, countries in the region exported $74 million in metalliferous minerals, and sales to Mexico tripled over the same period in 2017.

Regional business upwards
In the first nine months of 2018, the total value of exports of metalliferous minerals from Central America grew 26% over the same period last year, from $59 million to $74 million.

This growth is because of exports to Mexico, since for the periods concerned sales to the U.S. grew from $9 million to $28 million.

Exports by country
From January to September 2018, Honduras remained the largest exporter of metalliferous minerals, selling $63 million, followed by Guatemala with $10 million, El Salvador with $1.5 million and Nicaragua with $100,000. Costa Rica and Panama did not report exports.

Destination of exports
In the first nine months of 2018, 38% of sales in the region were to Mexico, 20% to Australia, 18% to Belgium and 8% to South Korea.

October 2018

Exports of metalliferous minerals from Central America summed $33 million from January to March 2018, and sales to Belgium increased 229% compared to the same period in 2017.
