In the third quarter of 2021, the volume sold of metallic minerals in the Central American region reached 2,731,659 Tons with a value of $2,176 million, being Panama the main exporter with $2,032 with main destination to China.

Regional Business on the Rise
For the third quarter of 2021, the total value exported of metalliferous minerals from Central America grew 143% over the same period last year, from $894 million to $2,176 million.
This growth is explained by exports to China, as for the periods in question sales to the Asian nation grew from reporting no purchases to the region to $819 million for the period in question in 2021.

Exports by Country
From January to September 2021 Panama was the leading seller of metalliferous minerals with $2.032 million, followed by Honduras with $72 million, Guatemala with $69 million, Costa Rica with $2 million, El Salvador with $1 million and Nicaragua with a minimal non-representative amount of exports with $300 thousand.

Destination of Exports
By September 2021, 38% of the region's sales were destined for China, 16% for Japan, 12% for South Korea and Spain, and 7% for Germany.

The destination that presented an increase in purchases of metalliferous minerals was South Korea, which in 2016 represented $18 million to reach $268 by September 2021.

From January to September 2018, countries in the region exported $74 million in metalliferous minerals, and sales to Mexico tripled over the same period in 2017.
