Medicines: Which Companies Do Business with the Government?

Agencia Farmacéutica Internacional, Meditek Services and Baxter are three of the companies that in the first quarter of 2019 were awarded contracts to provide medicines to public health institutions in the region.

An analysis of CentralAmericaData's Trade Intelligence unit provides data on the companies that were favored last year with contracts to supply pharmaceutical products and medical supplies to the different Ministries of Health and Social Security entities in Central American countries.

The information compiled indicates that in Guatemala, Agencia Farmacéutica Internacional S.A., J.J. Cohen S.A., Labymed, Compañía Farmacéutica Lanquetin, Servicios Quirúrgicos S.A., Stendhal and Abbott Laboratorios S.A. are among the companies with the most contracts awarded from January to March 2019.

According to the information system, among the main suppliers of medical and pharmaceutical products in Costa Rica are Meditek Services, Cefa Central Farmacéutica, Droguería Intermed S.A., Biocientífica Internacional and Promoción Médica.

In Panama, some of the companies contracted by the government were Aceti-Oxígeno, S.A., Baxter de Panamá S.A., Laboratorio Industrial Farmacéutico, Droguería Ramón González Revilla S.A., Reprico S.A., Medical Depot, among others.

Figures from the information system, "Public Purchases in the Health Sector" developed by the Trade Intelligence area of CentralAmericaData, details the list of companies favored with contracts to provide pharmaceutical products and medical supplies in tenders published between July 2017 and June 2018, by the several Ministries of Health and Social Security of Central American countries.

Awards: Medications for $6 million

March 2015

The Ministry of Public Finance in Guatemala has awarded 24 companies contracts for the supply of medicinal and pharmaceutical products worth $6.3 million.

The highest offer received was from Bodega Pharmaceuticals for $1.9 million and the lowest was received from the company Helios for $8,900.

Awards: Medical Products for $8 million

February 2015

Contracts have been awarded in Guatemala for the supply of oral and perenteral nutrition, contrast media, fluids and electrolytes, and master formulas.

The Ministry of Public Finance awarded 10 companies with contracts to provide 34 types of medical products. The selected companies are Laboratorio Ruipharma, Droguería Colón, Corporación Amicelco, Laboratorio y Droguería Pharmadel, Farmaproyectos, Bodega Farmacéutica, Droguería y Laboratorio Pharmalat, Droguería Refasa, Lavsa and Agencia Farmacéutica Internacional.
