Between the first three months of 2020 and 2021, the imported value of pharmaceutical products in Central America registered a positive variation, going from $825 million to $866 million.

Costa Rican Companies: Main Buyers in First Quarter 2021
This first quarter the main buyer of pharmaceutical products in Central America was Costa Rica, with $207 million, Panama, with $163 million, followed by Guatemala, with $162 million, El Salvador, with $113 million and Nicaragua, with $88 million.

Regarding the inter-quarterly variation of purchases abroad, for the period in question, El Salvador reported an increase of 19%, followed by Panama, Guatemala and Nicaragua, with 13%, 6% and 2%, respectively.

Costa Rica was the only market in the region whose imports in the respective period fell by 7%.

Regional Business on the Rise
Between the first three months of 2020 and 2021, the imported value of pharmaceutical products in Central America registered a positive variation, going from $825 million to $866 million.

For the periods in question, regional purchases from Germany increased by 2%, going from $73 million to $78 million, while imports from Mexico decreased by 1%, falling from $72 million to $71 million.

Germany and Mexico: Main Suppliers
In this first quarter, 9% of the value imported from Central America came from Germany, 9% from Mexico, 8% from Panama, 8% from the USA, 7% from India, 6% from Guatemala, 5% from Spain, 4% from El Salvador and 4% from China.

Germany is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most in the first quarters of the last few years, since in 2012 it represented 5% of the total value purchased, and in 2021 it rose to 9%.
