Medical Manufacturing Forum in Costa Rica

From October 9 to 10 representatives of medical device manufacturers will be taking part in an international forum in San Jose.

From a statement issued by the CINDE:

San Jose, 14 September 2016. Costa Rica will be hosting the third edition of the biggest Latin American forum in the field of Life Sciences, which is the Life Sciences Forum Costa Rica 2016, organized by the Costa Rican Coalition for Development Initiatives (CINDE), the agency in charge of attracting foreign investment to the country.

The world class forum will bring together some 350 international and national stakeholders in order to examine the main trends in the industry of life sciences and expose the potential of Costa Rica in one of the strategic sectors with the best positioning in the last few years. It also will feature an exhibition space with 53 companies and key industry suppliers.

$100 million Investment in Medical Manufacturing

Edwards Lifesciences has announced that as part of the expansion plan for its operations in Costa Rica, it will start construction of a new heart valve manufacturing plant in Cartago.

The company dedicated to the manufacture of heart valves started construction of the new plant next to the current one, located in the Zona Franca La Lima, in Cartago.

Costa Rica: More Investment in Medical Manufacturing

The multinational Hospira will be gradually closing manufacturing operations for infusion equipment in the Dominican Republic in order to transfer to facilities operating in Costa Rica.

The company told that "... after careful analysis of product volume and global manufacturing capabilities, we made the difficult decision to discontinue manufacturing operations in the Dominican Republic and transfer most of the installed plant operations to Costa Rica".

Costa Rica: $10 Million for Medical Devices

June 2016

Edwards Lifesciences Corporation has announced it is to build a heart valve production plant in Cartago which will start operating in early 2017.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Trade:

The company Edwards Lifesciences Corporation, a global leader in innovations designed to address heart disease and monitor patients in critical condition today announced that it has chosen Costa Rica as the country in which to expand its production network of heart valves, with an investment of $10 million (around ₡5 billion).

Bayer to Manufacture Contraceptive in Costa Rica

February 2015

The purchase by the German company of the assets of Conceptus include a Patent for an intertubal contraceptive device which will go into production at the Metropolitan Free Zone in Heredia.

Bayer announced that the plant will be producing a new permanent birth control device.
