Medical Devices: New Investment Announced

SMC Ltd, a manufacturer of medical devices, diagnostics and pharmaceuticals, announced that it will invest in increasing its installed capacity and expanding its facilities in Zona Franca Coyol, Costa Rica.

The Costa Rican Coalition of Development Initiatives (Cinde) reported that the expansion in Costa Rica will provide additional capacity for molding, clean room assembly and general manufacturing operations.

With this, the company will double its facilities in Zona Franca Coyol, Alajuela, reaching 11,148 square meters. SMC Costa Rica will improve its current capabilities in assembly, plastic injection molding, as well as secondary operations, providing its global customers and companies in the life sciences sector in Costa Rica with higher value opportunities to become strategic partners, highlights the official press release.

The publication reviews that "... this company was one of the first to establish operations in the industrial park located in Alajuela, in 2010. Four years later it doubled its physical footprint and this year it will double its industrial ceiling again."

Bob Stoesser, vice president of SMC, explained that "... SMC has experienced tremendous growth in Costa Rica, both in technological capabilities and human capital development. This is our third expansion in 10 years."

NDC to Invest Further $4 billion in Costa Rica

The medical device company Nitinol Devices & Components has announced it will expand its payroll and install a new plant.

NDC, which has been in the country for a year, plans to expand its payroll from 25 to 100 workers and build a second plant measuring 1,600 square meters in Coyol Alajuela.
