Medical Devices: $13 Million in New Plant

ICU Medical Inc. announced that it will build an industrial plant in Heredia, Costa Rica, dedicated to the manufacture of medical devices for infusion therapy and critical care applications.

The investment made in the plant located in La Aurora de Heredia will include a new infusion pump manufacturing line and a state-of-the-art sterilization plant, reported CINDE.

The official statement says that "... The investment made in the plant located in La Aurora de Heredia will include a new infusion pump manufacturing line and a state-of-the-art sterilization plant."

The investment includes $1.2 million in the installation of 4,054 solar panels that will allow ICU Medical to generate 6% of the monthly energy consumption required for the operation, the document states.

The German company Heraeus Medical Components has started operating, in Cartago, Costa Rica, a production plant for medical devices, including guidewires and catheters for cardiovascular access.

CARTAGO, Costa Rica - February 1, 2018   - Heraeus Medical Components today celebrated the grand opening of its new production plant with state-of-the-art technology, which highlights its commitment to its global clients, with innovation and growth in Costa Rica. Recognized as one of the leading providers of medical supplies in the world, the Heraeus operation in Cartago will play a key role in manufacturing its Finished Devices business line. This line includes guidewires and catheters for cardiovascular access. To meet the needs of its clients, which are always evolving, Costa Rica is now part of the global operation of Heraeus Medical Components, which has facilities in Germany, Switzerland, the United States, Puerto Rico and Singapore.

With an investment of $55 million the global company Smith and Nephew has started operating a new plant in Alajuela for manufacturing orthopedic devices.
